Bottom Pie Crust

This is the crust I use for the bottom of all of my pies. I have an especially flaky, delicious recipe for the top crust if I need one, but I don't see any reason to spend forever in the kitchen (not to mention that pound of butter or shortening that goes straight to...wherever you don't want it to go) making a traditional pie crust, when this crust is as flavorful, much healthier, and takes less than 5 minutes to prepare. I think you'll agree!

Makes an 8 or 9 inch pie crust

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup oil (I use canola oil)
  • 1/4 cup ice water

1. Combine flour and salt in a medium sized bowl.

2. Stir in oil and ice water. (the mixture will form a ball)

3. Pat dough into an 8 or 9 inch pie plate, covering all of the inside of the plate. Try to make it as even as possible.

That's it! Proceed with the recipe of your choice.
